The food looks absolutely delicious! I will be traveling to Japan for my first time very soon; are there any particular “lesser-known” dishes that you would recommend?

Depends on your taste and how adventurous you are (snapping turtle, chicken sashimi) but I would stay with the common food that is reasonably priced. Japanese food is excellent but you may also want to try Italian (lots of good italians places – french is excellent too but expensive)
