Naoshima Art Island (直島)

We visited the beautiful Setouchi (直島) area again. This time we visited the art islands, which includes Naoshima, before the foreign tourist crowds are allowed back. We choose not to stay in Naoshima but in Uno Port (宇野港), which is part of Tamano City (玉野). From Uno, its a short ferry ride to Naoshima. We stayed in a hotel that is part of the Keirin race track – bicycle race betting run by the government. Interestingly the racers and staff are all government employees. Because its gambling there are strict rules where the racer’s cannot have contact with outside individuals 3 days prior to the race. Because our hotel houses the racers when there is a race, the laundry rooms and certain other areas of the hotels close down to normal guests.
