For a real fortune cookie, go to Japan?

This New York Times article chronicles how one researcher traced the origin of the fortune cookie to Japan.  This explains why there are no fortune cookies in China.  Supposedly, Japanese immigrants brought these cookies from Japan to the US.  Since many of these Japanese immigrants owned chop suey restaurants that served Americanized Chinese food…the rest is history.
