On our way back from Zao Onsen, we decided to detour through Sendai and visit Matsushima (松島). We last visited Matsushima prior to the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami. A sad change was to the cedar tress that lined the approach to Zuiganji (瑞巌寺). Due to salt water damage from the tsunami, hundreds of 400 year old trees were cut down.
