Nikko is a popular day trip destination from Tokyo. Its a 2 hour train trip north into the mountains. Nikko’s known for the Toshogu shrine (東照宮), that enshrines the Tokugawa shogun that united Japan and ended the warring period. The Tokugawa shogunate ruled Japan for the next 250 years.

We happened to visit Nikko last summer and this winter.
