Bandai Kogen to Aomori to Hakodate

We made our way north headed for Shiretoko on the island of Hokkaido. On the way we stopped in Fukushima visiting the Bandai Highlands (aka Urabandai 裏磐梯), the Mt. St. Helens of Japan and Aizu Wakamatsu (会津若松).

From Fukushima we traveled to the north-most tip of the Honshu, Aomori (青森県) and visited Osore-zan (恐山), considered to be the entrance to the afterlife. We stayed in Misawa, near the US military base. From Aomori, we cross over to the island of Hokkaido with a stay in Hakodate.
