Hoping to catch the last of the blooming sakura cherry blossoms, we headed up North by the bullet train to Sendai. About 30 minutes by train from Sendai(仙台) is Hitome Senbonzakura (目千本桜). Hitome Senbonzakura has 1,200 somei-yoshino sakura trees lined up along the riverside.

From Hitome Senbonzakura, we headed to Shiogama Shrine (鹽竈神社), another popular spot for viewing the cherry blossoms in the Sendai area.
