Unvaccinated Tokyo

When we arrived in Tokyo in late May, less than 1% of Tokyoites were vaccinated. That number had risen to about 7% by the time we left. The UK variant was surging but Delta did not start surging till after our departure. Although being fully vaccinated, it did take a bit to get comfortable with crowded situations knowing that everyone around us were unvaccinated. Fortunately mask compliance is 100% – no politicization although you would see a rare person jogging outside without a mask.

We self-quarantined for the first 2 weeks – the rules are a bit vague except for explicit instructions not to take any public transportation or taxis. When not working remotely, we did take walks and acquire necessities at the local supermarket and convenience stores. The choices on UberEats was awesome.
