Modern Kaiseki at Nanzan Giro Giro

I’ve enjoyed dinner at Nanzan Giro Giro in Honolulu a couple of times. There is no menu – its a fixed course of 7 small dishes and changes monthly. Seating is at set times, 6, 6:30 and 8. Nanzan Giro Giro, is the third outpost of Giro Giro Hitoshina (枝魯枝魯ひとしな) in Kyoto. The second outpost is in Paris.

Kaiseki is a formal cuisine and a bit stiff. But Giro Giro has a more casual and approachable style – thus modern kaiseki. Each dish is served on pottery created by Kyoto ceramist Nanzan.

Considering that this is a Japanese restaurant in Honolulu, its excellent.
