You can’t get good tonkatsu in San Diego (Oki-Ton is not recommended).  On our way back from LAX, we stopped at Tokyo Tonkatsu Kagura in Torrance.  The tonkatsu was very good, nothing near as good as what you get in Tokyo but on par with Ginza Bairin in Honolulu.  Hopefully Tokyo Tonkatsu Kagura will be around.  According to this article Old Torrance has been hit hard by the recent recession and Kagura is not breaking even – its being supported by its other restaurants in LA.
