Around Izumo Grand Shrine (出雲大社)

The Izumo Taisha (Grand Shrine) according to myth is where all the Shinto gods gather once a year to meet and discuss issues. There’s even a dormitory structure for all the gods. The shrine is as old as Japanese recorded history, there are references to the shrine going back to 940 AD. The current “look” of the shrine dates back to the 1700’s. Izumo is also known for its soba noodles.
