The Oomagari Fireworks Competition is held in Akita (秋田) during August, where firework masters compete with their self-make creations. The Oomagari Fireworks Competition has a unique daytime competition that is held before sunset as people start to gather for the nighttime competition – many coming all the way from Tokyo. Most of the seating is reserved for the close to a million in attendance. We attended last year’s competition.
