Gokayama (五箇山) Day Trip

From Tokyo, we took a day trip to Gokayama. While not as famous as the village of Shirakawa-go (白川村), Gokayama is quieter and also an UNESCO World Heritage landmark for its thatched roof farm houses of gassho-zukuri (合掌造). Gokayama consists of 2 gassho-zukuri villages, Suganuma (菅沼) and Ainokura (相倉). We visited both before heading back to Tokyo.

Not quite a true day trip, we had to take the last bullet train out of Tokyo headed towards Kanazawa. We got off at Takaoka City (高岡市) and stayed the night there. After a morning walk around Takaoka, we took the bus to Gokayama.
