Monkey Slip Tree

The trees in the our front yard are Crape Myrtles. In Japan they’re called saru-suberi trees, saru meaning monkey and suberi meaning slip. The trunks of these trees are so slippery that even monkeys fall off. These trees bloom with white flowers in late summer – providing a nice contrast to the black walls.
