Mombetsu, Hokkaido or is it Siberia?

From Sapporo we caught a bus to take us to Mombetsu City (紋別) on the coast of  Sea of Okhotsk. We were hoping to see the sea drift ice (流氷) that arrives in that area. We dragged our luggage from the bus station on the snowy and icy sidewalks of Mombetsu to the hotel.

Mombetsu is a fishing city famous for crab – the city even has a 10m tall crab claw statue.  I’ve never been to Siberia, but this is probably what its like but without vending machines.
