Zion Day 1 – The Narrows

We had friends in town from Japan and decided to visit Zion National Park in Utah for a couple of days.  Zion is a 2.5 hour drive from Las Vegas and one of my favorite parks.  Its more compact and less crowded than Yosemite, but just as spectacular.

We were able to get a room at the Zion Lodge inside the park…cancellations.

The leaves were just starting to turn color…should be really pretty in a couple of weeks.

On our first day, we hiked the Narrows.  The Narrows is a gradually narrowing canyon and a large portion of the hike consists of walking upstream in the Virgin River.

The water was a chilly 50 degrees and the Narrows was considerably cooler than the rest of Zion, but after a while you got used to it. Quite a few hikers had rental rubber socks and hiking shoes from the Zion Adventure Center…they seemed more comfortable.
