Railway Museum

We took a trip to Omiya in Saitama to visit the Railway Museum (鉄道博物館). I’ve been to the old Railway Museum – the Transportation Museum was in Kanda by Akibahara when I was kid. The new facility 30 minutes from Tokyo is impressive. Its best to have a Suica card – it makes it painless to pay for everything such as admission, food, classes, and kid’s rides.

We took a class on how to “drive a train” – each person in the class gets their own driver’s simulation console. You can also experience simulations of various trains in a simulation area for free, except for the steam locomotive simulation which is an extra charge.
